Towing

BTW, as long as an open diff is lubricated (i.e. if you're low on
tranny fluid to the point that lifting the front to towing height
won't splash the lube around, then you're in trouble), it really
doesn't care what wheels are turning. Has to do with Degrees of
Freedom (man, haven't used that term since college), the diff doesn't
know if it's being driven by the engine or by the wheels. The torsen
towing issue, as Dave Eaton stated is a similar situation as towing an
autobox, it won't lube properly, so thus the damage. Unlocked diffs
are simply....dumber, no different (no pun intended) in concept than
the "pumpkins" found in the rear axle of any rear drive 'murican car.
Our diffs are just housed in much prettier (and more expensive)
housings. Oh, and on at least some models, we can lock and unlock them
too.
BTW, C4 chassis cars are the UrS cars, the US 100CS (I think stateside
only 2.8 V6 were availible) and UrA6 series of cars.
LL - NY still can selectively lock a diff on my 200Q (but not the S6...darn!)
