LAC video--maybe I'm getting old, but this ride made me queasy

Ingo, you hit on the most important point.  In fact, when driving at speeds like on public roads, it is almost axiomatic that you think of the cars around you as relatively stationary obstacles.   The only problem with that kind of thinking,  which we could discuss endlessly, is that they are neither "stationary" nor "obstacles."  They are vehicles, occupied by other people, who usually do not share your agenda and certainly do not know what you are going to do next, and sometimes are easily frightened.  It's not strictly a matter of "being in control of your machine" -- that's a very selfish way of looking at the actual situation.

BTW I'm no tree-hugger when it comes to cars or motorcycles.  I rode dirt bikes starting at age 5 1/2, I own a 450 horsepower 1968 Corvette Convertible, a 1983 Honda CX650 Turbo motorcycle, and I've done plenty of things to frighten myself.  Luckily that's all I've done, and after a while frightening yourself gets very old.

One thing I would like to see is more sanctioned events for drivers who like to push their cars, under saner circumstances.  People with a penchant for speed and adventure should advocate and financially support those kinds of places, because otherwise it winds up on public roads.
