Michael,
1. Check that the fluid level is up.
2. Follow the supply hose from the bottom of the reservoir to the pump, and
check the connections at both ends for tightness and check the hose for
cracks.
3. Check for loose/cracked banjo fitting bolt on suction side of pump.
The system could be sucking air in, but not be loose enough to let fluid
leak out.
4. Check tightness of pump belt, and if really tight, loosen enough to
check radial play in pump shaft (up and down). When the monkey-lad
destroyed mine, it wiped out the pump's front main seal, which also allowed
the system to 'suck air' but was pretty obvious, as it was also leaking a
quart a day...
Both scenarios have happened to me, over the last 200,000 miles, split
between two cars.. Symptom was intermittant power steering assist.
Good luck.
Mark
