stalling in 95 A6 Quattro

Hi,
Since the cooler weather has set in here in PA,
our 95 A6 Quattro now conks out when warm and
we shift from drive to reverse.  Drive to
neutral is just fine.  We notice it most going
into park.  9 times out of 10 when warm the
rpm drops like a rock, the ISV doesn't seem to 
respond fast enough and it dies.
I'm suspecting the ISV needs some work but I'm
curious why it doesn't happen when in neutral.
It's obviously an automatic.  Any ideas?
