Glad everyone is alright. And that must've been something
REALLY hot to ignite the gas, like a hot turbo or turbo heated
exhaust. Plain heat w/o open flame generally isn't hot enough
to just simply ignite gas. Don't know the flame temp for fuel,
but it's much hotter than general underhood temps. That's why
it's relatively rare to have cars burst into flames in accidents,
unlike what happens in the movies. I feel bad for your future
SIL, it's just like he just got the car. Glad he's okay though.
