Return of the 5 cylinder for VW/Audi?

I drove a Chevy Colorado pcikup with that engine a few months ago, while
my A4 was in for the 10k service. I had it for 2 days and it was pretty
nice. The engine was pretty torquey but had a typical GM 'flatulent'
sound, like their V6's.... They really need to do some exhaust system
tuning on their cars. My across-the-street neighbor has an '04 Grand Prix
and it sounds like an early-80's Chevy Citation with that farty sound....
