One thing to check is the firewall - it tends to crack at the clutch MC
and allow pedal motion with no fluid pumping.
As far as bleeding, I have read here that one good way is to run a hose
from a front brake caliper bleed screw to the clutch slave bleeder, open
both and, while making sure the brake fluid reservoir stays full, pump
the brake pedal to slowly reverse bleed the clutch system.
