odometer gear toasted

Who hasn't had this problem?! Well I need a working odometer for
obvious reasons and as usual the teeth on the gear the motor spins has
missing teeth hence as it 'rounds to that area, it looses contact and
no longer turns the numbers. I've mastered the bouncing speedo and the
dead tach an temp gauges..... but do not know where to find these
gears..... preferably in metal rather than the oem plastic. I emailed
VDO but they did not get back to me.
Tony Hoffman new a guy that stamped out several but that was a one
time deal..... anyone out there know of an adequate fix? Thanks!
