Why not just obtain and install a used tank?  Not too tough of a job, 
and this problem seems quite rare (so the used one should be good - also 
you can clean it carefully before installation).

Also, I never heard of this in-tank filter?  Type 85's usually have a 
pre-filter in the line from the tank, and of course the big filter after 
(?) the fuel pump.
