Best tool for tie rod ends

Ironically enough, a tie rod end puller will work well.  Looks like a 
double sided C-clamp - hooks around the strut arm and a threaded rod 
then pushes the bolt part of the tie rod end out of the strut arm.

Should be fairly cheap at a FLAPS.
