When changing the A6 2.8 timing belt, in addition to the water pump all of
the rollers and the tensioner should be replaced with new parts. I sold my A4 to
a friend with the same engine as the A6 (a 2.8 V6 AFC code) I gave him a new
belt and water pump and told him make sure the rollers and tensioners were
replaced when the belt and pump was changed. He did not--one of the rollers
seized
after the belt and pump replacement. The new belt broke with many valves
being bent. The A4 had
a previous belt, pump, roller and tensioner change at 60,000 miles and died
at 124,000 miles--towed to auction for very little money.
