gas tank replacement

Huw, the problem with simply obtaining a used fuel tank is that the condition of the lining on the inside varies considerably, and
may be worse than the one that's being pulled, especially if the "new" tank sat around for a while, dry, and had a chance to rust up
inside. It's a solution, yes, but not a permanent once, which I think is what everyone that the problem has affected is after.

The in-tank "sock" is definitely there. You can actually see it without cutting into the tank at all. After having pulled the tank, shine a
light into it and find the oval-shaped opening in the baffle at the bottom. Just below that opening on the other side of the baffle is
is the "sock."

Also, I think this problem is more common than we think. Since purchasing my car a year ago and having problems and posting
about them, at least 3 or 4 other type 85 owners have mentioned having the same issues. Maybe the lining inside the tank
deteriorates rapidly after ~18 years, who knows.

Cheers,

Matt
