4000 Q Tank and solutions - Plexiglass? or not...

Ok, I wrote the article, and agree that the clear plexiglass thing is useless in purely technical terms. However, while thinking about the in-tank pump, I realized some way would have to be introduced to get the fuel out of the top of the tank. That is where I started thinking about plexiglass. I also watched a "Top Gear" episode and they had a camera in an A8 fuel tank (800 miles on one 20 gallon tank of diesel). I just thought it might be cool to see inside it, since there would be some rigging on the top anyhow. You would have to cut the trunk liner, though. Not real crazy about that on my car.
However, I'd agree the easiest way is to cut the tank open and remove the "sock". That is what I did, and it makes the most sense.
Also, Matt, Shawn, and anyone else who has repaired their tanks, let me know if you have any pics of the surgery. I'd like to get a few better ones for the article. I'd only use them with your permission, of course.

That would really be useless. If the sock is clogged it's pretty obvious (noisy pump, cutting out, bucking, limited range, etc), no need for a "viewable
section" to determine that. And when the problem manifests itself, it's evident enough that you just want a solution, not another way to identify the already
obvious problem.
Quick footnote--This site is really great: http://audiv8q.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=9&Itemid=2
The only thing I'd recommend in addition to that process would be a sealer on the inside of the tank, because without it the tank's just going to rust up
again and the problem is going to reassert itself (though not quite to the same degree since the sock is gone). I know I sound like POR-15 fanboy, but
I've really had nothing but good experience with their products and procedures. To me, going through the process listed above and sealing the tank with
the multi-step POR-15 sealant would be the ideal, permanent, end-of-story solution.
