Is this the same car that left you stranded in the middle
of nowhere?  I'd get a Honda. :)

Did the engine turn over OK before the torque converter
change?  Maybe there is not-normal binding in the
transmission that makes it hard to turn the car over.
Maybe the heat frees things up enough to get it to turn
over easier, but not free enough to let the engine run
as normal.

Try to turn the car over by hand: take out the spark
plugs and use a big wrench on the crank pulley nut.
If it is difficult to turn by hand, then maybe the
starter isn't at fault.
