You sed:
To those of you with manual diff selection, how do YOU set your diffs
up for track days? Lock the center? All of em or leave em open. Or is
it more of a personal preference thing. FWIW the car is an 87 4kq
I have an 87 4ktq, previous 4kq. I have run both cars at the track, wet or
dry, with the center diff locked. I find it gives me a bit of on-throttle
understeer, and a bit more lift-throttle oversteer. This gives me a bit
more responsiveness to the throttle for handling purposes. I also find
that the center diff works as a 'poor-man's' abs: It forces the rear brakes
to do more of the work, and lessens their tendency to lock up on heavy
braking.
Locking the rear, IME, gives a bunch of understeer to a car that already has
plenty, thanks.
Caveats: I have not had any drivetrain issues due to this practice, you may
see differently. I also have a couple of spare transmissions should I need
one, and would not be too upset to have to install one. I trailer my car to
and from the track. Audi track days since 1995.
