Popping clunk from back end when stopping...

I was thinking about the upper strut bearings. I replaced all the struts
when I bought it two years ago but for some reason only replaced the front
upper bearings. The funny thing is that I cant get it to make the noise by
raising and lowering the car as happens when I hit the brakes.

I'd start by checking the upper strut bearings. The gas tank is pretty
rigid. If you want to see what is looks like, check this out:

I don't think the tank would make any kind of clunking noise, but I guess
I've been wrong before. I'd probably check the brakes and make sure nothing
is loose. But, generally, it's the strut bearings. If the struts haven't
been replaced is a while, I'd do them too. You are going to save some time
in the future.
