Oil temps in the North East USA?

I've found that even something as minimal as throwing an old sleeping bag
over a warm battery at night will preserve a lot of cranking power until the
next morning. I've thought about insulating the battery. I know it would
be a bad idea in the summer, but I wonder how warm the battery gets in the
winter.

Subject: Oil temps in the North East USA?
After driving for 30 minutes on the highway in N
Jersey, I'm getting just a tad under the normal temp
which is the first thick hash mark at 10 or 11 oclock.
This morning my climate control said -3f and the
engine barely wanted to crank on a 1 month old
battery. Running 15w50 mobil1. I'll switch to 5w30
mobil1 this weekend to see if it helps but the
temperatures appear to be headed higher next week.
