It is possible- the FPR has been known to fail by broken solder joints.

Is the 80q tank lined?  I recall hearing about how pieces of liner  
could get sucked up against the screen of the pump, engine  
dies...liner slips off.  Car mysteriously starts up again.

(wouldn't this also account for the change in speed?)

Also, I'm suspicious of the code about failed connection between the  
fuel+ignition computers.  Megan- did you clear the codes, drive the  
car, and see if the codes returned?
