To me, that seems to be the most obvious suspect for a car that is

I had a boot disappear from my outer CV and after all the grease flew
out of the joint, the car pulled itself all over the road randomly and
scared the hell out of me.  Drove it to the mechanic the next day
because I don't do anything on my car that requires a hammer (lol) and
while turning corners half way there, you could hear the thing binding
up.
