Starter on 5000S?

It does sound like a starter solenoid. I had one start to flake out
on my old tow vehicle. I carried a pipe and 1.5 lb. sledge hammer
with me for a week before I had time to replace the starter. If it
wouldn't engage, I'd place the pipe on the starter housing and give it
a few whacks with the hammer. Worked every time and much easier than
climbing under my truck. =)
