I guess I'm not a cool kid 'cause I don't recognize any of the names above, but I'm not so sure about this argument. For one thing, it's hard to find the variety of conditions they want for testing without passing thru some civilization, unless they plan to trailer a fleet of cars in between designated test areas (makes me think of something like the Knight Rider semi LOL).

Furthermore here in SW Colo I see test fleets quite freqently during the summer months, all the time on Coal Bank and Molas passes...........and I always figured they test in the mountains down here _because_ it is sparsely populated compared to, say, Eisenhower Tunnel around Denver.

Some of the fleets I see are full-body-camo'd, others just have the equipment, antennas, black boxes etc previously mentioned, and some all have blue (MI?) plates that start with MT (which I always assumed was Motor Trend, but these are of course not camo'd and are not likely to be manufacturer tests).

I still remember years ago ('97 or '98 maybe) when I saw a fleet of what I could only describe as A3's.......two door Audis with rear hatchback, 'bout the size of a Golf with boxes and wires all running down the a-pillar.

if I only carried a camera 24/7 (esp when on the bike).....................
