If you get the cheap rebuilds from Autozone, Pep Boys etc you want to make sure you get the right part. GF's father bought a new axle for his 4k a few years back from Autozone. Cursed and screamed when it wouldn't go in, fought with it forever..........finally took it back out and found it was just a little too long. The rebuilders just throw whatever they want into whatever box is closest to them at the moment.

And I suppose I'm part of the problem 'cause I frequently turn in cores that are not what I purchased, altho I've never done it on half-shafts. Usually calipers, alternators and such for my domestic vehicles.

I bought a cheap CV from Pep Boys for an Acura a few years ago and the joint failed after a few drives -- I think it pulled apart. Amazingly the boot kept the thing in one piece. It was all wound up. They gave me another and I didn't have any other problems with the pair.
