Condensate in the evaporator box goes out one drain to a spot near the back
of the passenger side front wheelwell on earlier big body Audis, while the
HVAC well below the rain diverter at the bottom of the windshield drains
separately through a good-sized rubber flapper that often gets clogged with
leaves, pine needles and seed droppings from trees. The evaporator box's
much smaller drain tube sometimes becomes a nesting place for insects.
The more common blockage is the larger HVAC well drain. Another place
Audis have trouble sealing water out of the cabin is at the windshield,
especially on cars where the windshield has been replaced by some
irresponsible jerk who doesn't bother to get the new seal/glass located
properly. The third plugged drain possibility is the sunroof. It has
drains at each corner, but if one plugs, you can get water into the cabin
at that corner, especially if parked on a slope that sends the water to
that corner.
