The better ones are any Honda or Toyota from those years.
Seriously, if your criteria for a good car is "less problems",
you might want to rethink Audi as the brand. If you want/need
quattro, like the solid feel and handling and highway manners
of the Audi, then be prepared for some reliability issues,
especially as you sort out your used car.
That said, the 4K series may be more reliable just because they
are less complex than the 200 series. And the newer cars seem
to be more reliable just because they are newer. My '94 100 S
Avant (front wheel drive) has been much more reliable (as in
$1000s in repairs) than the '89 200 TQ it replaced. Not as much
fun to drive, but more reliable. And that may be just because
the electrics, sensors, rubber, etc. are 5 years newer.
Based on your range of years, my recommendation would be a 1993
90 or 100 quattro, the engines of which had some problems with
oil leaks (valley pan gasket and other issues).
On the other hand, the turbo I-5 is a well known quantity on this
list. If you get a 1989-90 200 Turbo (or a 91 20V), and you have
problems, there will probably be someone on the list who has BTDT
and can help you fix it. Not that the fix will be simple or
inexpensive.
Does that help? :)
