>From memory, there is a ground wire from the solenoid to the starter motor
casing. If this corrodes a higher resistance would interfer with normal starter
operation.

For starters (pun intended), DO NOT R&R the starter using the standard
jack to hold the car up. You need jackstands or ramps minimum. I don't
know what's the ground wire. I thought the starter was grounded through
its contact with the bellhousing. There will be two bolts, an upper that
screws into a threaded hole in the starter from the back of the bellhousing
flange and a lower that passes through both the starter and bellhousing
flange and secures with a nut.
