Recommendations for Battery Tenders

So is this necessarily any worse than what a battery sees in normal service?  Assume you have a small draw even when the car is off and you drive your Audi every 3 days........doesn't the battery get pulled down by the clock, etc and then recharged by alt when you drive?
I did skim thru the link, lots of good info.

To maintain the battery properly, it needs to be held at "float"  
voltage; it's better than charging every time the battery drops in  
voltage.

have to skip down a little bit.
