It's amazing how simple things are in the Volvo.

There are two narrow vertical slats.  Take a thin key or your  
fingernail, and push them in a bit.  They pop out half-way; pull them  
out all the way, they release the latches inside holding the radio  
in, and are now finger loops.  A gentle tug, and the whole radio  
slides out- rather easily, too.

Makes you ask, "why do I need a special tool to remove every other  
radio on the planet?"
