Understood. I'm of the camp that a system designed for R12 would work
best as designed. Besides, I invested in a 30lb R12 cylinder a while
back and got EPA certified since I have a couple of cars with R12
systems. There's one hose that leaks as well (compressor to condenser
muffler). I've done 134 conversions before and they just don't work
well. This is particularly true for systems in the crossover time from
'91 to '93. By the time '94 rolled through systems were mostly
redesigned for 134a.
The expansion valve is an orifice design. It's the GM white part and I
am also replacing that. 10 oz of oil sounds about right for a complete
re-fill.
