My '94 100 S Avant (non-quattro) has been *way* more reliable
than my '89 200 TQ was.  For the most part, I just change the
oil and oil filter. Electrics work, AC works, seat heaters
work.  It is like an entirely different animal.  I think my
'94 might be Canadian car, as it has a Canadian Owners Manual
and non-automatic climate control (3 knobs, not a digital
display).

I think the list recommended replacement schedule for the
t-belt is 60K miles or 5 years, although the factory may
say 90K.  Check the archives for the other "while you are
in there" bits that should be changed with the timing belt.
So, if your prospective car's belt was changed 5 years ago,
it may need it again, even if it's been only 20K miles.
