4kq broken odometer

last week, before heading on a road trip my odo stopped at 231,099.  I took 
it apart yesterday and found that the problem isn't what I think happens to 
most 4k odometers.  The problem is that the shaft that the odometer readout 
sits on wont stay in position, it slips out of the plastic on one end and 
moves toward the worm gear thing.  I've tried a few things to keep it in 
place, one worked for .9 miles this morning on my way to work. Any insight 
into this problem is welcomed, and if anybody has a spare odometer sitting 
around that would be nice too.
