4000s starting issue (no click/crank)

You said: "Well upon the advice of another on how to hot-wire the
4000, I tried connecting a wire between the Solenoid's
2 big bolts (Term30 & ConnectionA). Many sparks. Then a
turn of the key & only 1 click."

Does NO ONE LISTEN!!!!!? That cable is NOT a ground strap! If you get
a ground at the other end of that little strap, you're gonna let a LOT
of smoke and heat out, and wires are gonna melt. It carries 12v + from
the engaged solenoid to the starter motor, just like I said earlier in
this discussion. If you jump those posts, and the starter is good (as
well as the engine and battery ground straps and the positive cable from
the battery to the starter), the starter motor will spin. It will NOT
engage the flywheel because you've bypassed the solenoid, which needs to
function to throw out the starter gear. The engine, therefore, will NOT
"turn over". The fact that you got a bunch of sparks when you attempted
to operate the starter tells us a couple of things: The power and
ground cables are at least there and allow enough power through to make
the sparks; and that the starter motor is bad, because it didn't spin
when you applied power to it. It's seized up! Come on, guys, this is
BASIC Jr High School electricity! At least some of you MUST own a
Bentley (or even a Hanes, for Pete's sake)! Look at the wiring
diagrams, and maybe the first part of the chapter where they tell you
how to read and use it.

Believe it or not, this SAME misinformation appeared today on the 914
Club forum, and from a technical adviser working for a parts retailer!

End of rant, for the moment! John
