4kq reluctant start

My wife drove her 4kq (the one with the funky starter wiring I haven't
replaced yet--but will soon) a little over a mile from our yard and parked
it in the sun with ambient temperatures around 80 F. About 20 minutes
later she got a no start. Engine turns, won't catch. We let it sit for
another 20 or so minutes while I went and got a chain, and when it still
wouldn't start, I pulled it back home with my 200q20v (nice to have a
trailer hitch to hang a chain on). Along the way, she put it in fourth and
let the clutch out, but quit when she heard a terrific squealing noise.
Much like a fanbelt squeal. After we got home, it wouldn't start again, so
I started getting the barn ready (that's where my hoist is). Just on a
"what if", I tried the starter again and it started right up. That's maybe
an hour after we got back to our place. I put it on the hoist so I can
fix that wiring and be ready for the new rear tie rods this weekend if they
show up today. So did we experience some sort of vapor lock? Gas tank is
full.
