NF engine/KE3-Jetronic problems

Hi,
I recently acquired an '89 100Q. It had been hit in the front right corner,
so the fender and air box was damaged. The rubber boot to the intake and all
hoses etc. including the distributor was removed, just lying in a box in the
trunk. I replaced all the damaged parts, but as the distributor was gone, I
put in one from an older I5, but without vacuum advance just like the NF
distributor. Just put all toghether, but...
When I try to start it, it will fire on the fuel from the cold start valve
and maybe run very rough 2-3 seconds, then stall. If I unplug the CSV, I can
make it run rough by lifting the air flow metering plate from inside the air
box and moving the throttle. When it runs, it will sometimes spit back in
the intake, sometimes it will "backfire" into the exhaust. (exhaust system
removed for welding, only downpipe installed) To me, it looks like ignition
timing is way off, but I have done the basic adjustment as specified. At
least it should run more than 2-3 seconds and not spit and backfire?
I'm thinking that the older distributor might not be compatible, but on the
other hand, the hall sensor gives a signal as it does get a spark, and it
should at least not stall, right? Finding a NF/NG distributor around here is
not that easy..
Many thanks for help concerning this! :)
