My own fuel pump saga- '84 4kq- (and some fixes)

Maybe the wiring to the pump is shorting somewhere?  

  Maybe there's something going on with the fuel distributor /
pressure regulator / frequency valve that's making it much harder for
the pump to push gas through, thus blowing fuses?
