the car to a good VW/Audi mechanic.

IIRC, Scott Justusson of QSHIPQ Performance Tuning is a respected
mechanic in Chicago. Contact QSHIPQ at AOL.COM.  Sure it's a 3 or 4
hour drive, but if he can do the job(s) for half the price (or give
you a better diagnosis), it would be worth it.
