I feel old and insulted

Tony,
I feel your pain. I felt bitter ever since I went to the local dealer and
the parts guy told me that the Type 43 part numbers were stricken from their
catalogue. Last summer I drove over to the place in my DKW to pick up a
part for my Type 44 - the sales floor emptied as the staff came out to look.
At least most of them had seen the History of Progress book and knew not to
ask if I stuck the rings on the grille from a wrecked A4.
25 years of quattro is almost half over - have you seen any of the
dealerships doing _anything_ to advertise the fact? Cruise ins? Open
houses? Invites to owners of "vintage" Audis? Party plans for a
quattroberfest? Anybody?
Audi itself is making an attempt to organize all the marque clubs
(Audi/Wanderer/DKW/Horch/Auto Union/NSU) under the Audi Club International
banner. They've briefly alluded to one of the benefits as making available
NLA parts - that would be nice to believe, although some in Germany (where
ACI is active) believe it's more of an attempt to exert some control over
the "brand clubs".
Sigh.....
