Questions about backup VW Van (LAC!!!)

As long as the subject has come up, this will be the last year for the VW
bus (in it's basic air cooled configuration).  Brazil is the last country
to manufacture them, and a friend at V'dub do Brasil told me they have
redesigned the "Kombi" with a water cooled engine.  It's currently still
available with either a 1.6L gasoline or alcohol air cooled engine.  In
the past they've offered everything in the Kombi from the 1.9L air cooled
engine to a Diesel version.  

IMHO it's yet another mistake for VW.  By going to the water cooled
engine with more amenities,  it's courting a much smaller and highly
competitive market.  The air cooled engine with it's cheap maintenance
and bulletproof reliability was it's #1 selling point.
