I know on the earlier cars with a screw type locking ring "up top" the 
tranny end is the same.

I don't know if the lower end on the bayonet type cars is "half turn and 
pull" or "unscrew and pull", but either one starts with that half turn. 
  If it's a bayonet type, it will not turn any further, just pull.

Whne reinstalling, sometimes you have to fiddle a bit to get the square 
cable end to line up with the tranny driver/speedo receiver sockets. 
But I bet you knew that already.
