That isn't what people call the "bomb".  If you've ever seen a type 44 
pressure accumultor thing, they are steel and sperical, look a lot like 
WW2 vintage hand grenades, or the bombs lit and thrown in cartoons.

No, it's not assiciated with the brake assist.  It's for storing a bit 
of vacuum, which on a cgt is pretty much only used for the recirculation 
flap.  A 4kq I think has a bigger one (or two of them), since the diff 
locks are also vacuum operated.
While the power locks might seem to be, they are run by a separate 
bi-level (vacuum/pressure) pump in the trunk.
