Rear Tierod nuts

I have had good luck in applying pressure to the back side of the ball joint
using the ball joint press tool I have. Instead of applying the press tool
to the threaded end of the joint, flip it over and apply pressure so that
the joint seats into the strut cone. I use an old nut under the point of
the press tool point so I don't damage the back side of the ball joint.
Tighten up the press tool a bit, try turning the ball joint nut. If it
still spins the threaded piece, tighten up the press tool another flat or
two until it holds.
I have used this method for several years, and have never damaged a ball
joint. YMMV, etc. I'm sure there is a $$$$ VAG-tool for this purpose, but
I'm not really into buying such tools that might get used very infrequently.
