The easiest way to tell if the fan works is to jump the 2 wires on the
connector for the thermo switch that activates the fan.  If the fan
comes on that way, then the temp sender that switches the fan on and
off is bad.

My 83 CGT had a temp sensor for the fan fail... it was located at the
bottom of the radiator.  I think it was like $10 or something...
