Carpooling is a FANTASTIC idea...until you factor in the tax breaks
towns/cities/states give to every company to move to some bleak corporate
park 25 miles past the middle of nowhere.
Carpooling was fine in 1940-50...when there was a "downtown" in cities and
the majority of people drove INTO the city each day.
Sure, there are places where some carpooling works...the "slug" lines in DC
are an example. And I'm sure 1-5 people here can/will reply with a "I
carpool and it's great, etc, etc." IMHO, carpooling is fine for people who
work steady 9-5 schedules and do NOTHING else when their day is done. No
late work, don't work out at the company gym, don't go to a post-work
event...nothing. Rigid schedule of 9-5. In my limited work life (16 yrs)
that isn't how the majority of the world operates, at least here in
NJ/NY/CT.
YMMV
