Auto to manual swap 95 S6

I was about to say the UrS4/S6 never came to the US with an automatic,
but then I noticed you're in New Zealand. The main issue to be aware of
is that the body shell is different for an automatic. The tunnel is
typically narrower than it is on a manual transmission equipped car.
So, as a minimum you'll need to do some modification to the tunnel. I
think some on this list have done this swap on other autobox Audis, V8s
come to mind, and could chime in with more detail.

The rest of it is just swapping out parts. Besides the obvious stuff
like pedal box and shift linkages, the ECU is different. Though maybe
it's possible that you might be able to use an autobox ECU on a manual
car. Don't know. It may work fine for the engine controls but it might
through codes because it can't find the gearbox. Definitely not
possible the other way around, obviously.

Assuming you can work out the fit issues, definitely go for the 6spd. A
CRB from the RS2 is a good choice, but getting more difficult to find.
The CGR used on the S2 is essentially the same gearbox though the
earlier versions had a narrow 1st gear that is prone to failure.
Though failure is a clicking noise or straight cut gear noise depending
on it's manifestation and typically not a big deal, other than annoying.
I've had the latter one on my CBD 5-spd S6 for 35k miles and I can't get
it to get any worse no matter how hard I hammer on it.

Another option is the CMG from the V8 equipped S4/S6, or the DGU from
the S6 Plus. The V8 gearboxes have a taller 6th gear for highway
cruising. They also have a built-in pump for a transmission cooler but
you can just put in a line to loop it back if you don't want to bother
with the cooler. Check out Charlie Smith's site for more info on the
01E transmissions. http://www.elektro.com/~audi/01E/

Overall the cars are great, though I would imagine the slushbox takes a
lot of the fun out of them, and the AAN engine has a lot of potential.
