When I fitted my schrick 272 in the NG 90q I left everything as stock.
Idle was appalling, surged lots... to get decent idle I had to advance
ignition timing to 21 deg BTDC, which is far too advanced, had to
compromise by running around 16-18 degrees and adjusting fuelling to
smooth the idle. They can be a pain to set up :( oh, and when you have a
nice sexy cam in your previously non interference engine, make sure you
loctite the camshaft pully bolt :(

Do you mean cam or ignition timing - just seeing if this concurs with
what I experienced.
