Sounds like the Climate Control computer itself is at
fault. The intermittent nature would imply either bad
solder or intermittent power connection to the
computer. Perhaps related to the aftermarket audio
work done next to it????

Is the antenna amplified? I know it is on our '95 A6q
avant (is this a sedan or avant?). If so, no power to
an amplified antenna = really bad reception. The
speaker thing gets really scary since I thought all
A6s had the Bose system? (Or was that just the
quattro? I dunno.) I would suggest finding a more
competant car audio shop.
<< It's the little things like this that make me

like this don't bother me much, but my dad is about to
trade the car off raher than deal with these
headaches! >>
At least some of what you describe can't be faulted to
the car maker, rather to a poor choice of aftermarket
service it appears. It would not surprise me if the
climate control issues were related to the aftermarket
radio install as well.
Good luck and HTH
