Yes, a friend did this to an 86 5ktq years ago. He got the solonoid from JCWhittney. He had put the alarm/keyless entry/remote start in already, so he just had to program it to send the signal. You would obviously have to get the keyless entry system for the activation (and a relay). But, other than that, it's pretty straightforward.
When you hook up the solonoid, just set it up to push on the same release that the button on the trunklid pushes on.

Whew! Been gone for a while (about a month) due to some very unexpected circumstances (long story, not Quattro-related or relevant) but I'm back and I have about 300 digest messages to read. Woo Hoo! (Note to Ben Swann: I'm sending an email to you, separately.)
Apart from having a reschedule in some of the improvements I want to make, the 5KCSTQ is in fine shape. This week I'll be able to get back to work with any luck, and it's nice to be able to finally get back to the List.
And I even have a question to prove it! ;)
Has anyone ever fit a remote trunk release button to a Type 44 of that vintage. Any BTDTs? I just searched the archives and found nothing but a coy reminder that basically...it doesn't have one! This is one feature from newer cars that I really do miss, especially when picking up passengers at the airport, supermarket, etc., etc. JC Whitney sells a doodad for about $25, anyone else have other ideas?
Good to be back, much more to come after I finish reading up on what's been going on the past month or so. I did see the "25 years of Quattro" thread and I've gotta tell you - I visited the site and while it's very exciting and innovative, I have to throw Brett a bone here - four cursors is three too many. They should make it a single cursor and leave the rest of it alone.
Anyway, thanks for any help as always and I should be back up to speed on the modifications/pictures/KnowledgeBase contribs. within the next two weeks.
Cheers,
Alex Kowalski
