For $2600, I'd spend a day on the phone calling around,
starting with the local auto parts places and asking
who they would use.

Option 2: Would a Helicoil work in a spark plug hole?
If he has courage and skill, FedEx the coil and wires
to St. Louis. Then buy a Helicoil, drill, bits, shop
vacuum and whatever other tools are needed locally.
Stuff a greased rag in the hole, tap the hole, vacuum
out the nasty bits, remove the rag, insert the Helicoil,
insert the spark plug, torque it properly, install the
coil and wire, and he can be on his way. Even if it
just gets him home, he'll be in a better position to
deal with a permanent fix.
