That's the beauty about the Snap-on, and presumably the Facom one as well (haven't seen one).  The Snap-On socket is designed specifically for the VW/Audi transmission plugs.  It's a one-piece forging only 1 inch in overall length.

The only downside is that it is a 3/8" drive.  They used to make a 1/2" drive version but they discontinued it years ago, though I managed to pick up a used one on Ebay, so now I have both.
