Yes, reverse threads are involved because the part that joins the tie 
rod end to the tie rod is a turnbuckle. Both the tie rod and tie rod 
end are hollow and threaded internally. They are connected by the 
externally threaded turnbuckle with a jam nut and cone on each end. 
Just getting the tie rod end free of the turnbuckle does you no good 
because your alignment guy must be able to turn the turnbuckle in order 
to set toe. The combination of normal and reverse threads means that 
turning the turnbuckle one way makes the tie rod assembly shorter and 
turning it the other way makes it longer.
