MAACO and other cheap paint jobs

The quick & dirty paint jobs at places like Maaco are exactly that...quick & dirty & cheap. You get what you pay for (generally) when it comes to car paint jobs. I had one of those cheapie jobs done on my old Impala 9c1 (police interceptor package). It looked darn nice when I picked it up. It looked good for a year, OK for another two and then went to total crap. So, if all you need is "better than it is now" and only need it to last 2-3 years...it's not a bad deal. And that's assuming you wax it every 4-6 months like I did. More care might mean longer life but I wouldn't count on it. They use the cheapest paint they can get. The paint job on the CGT was a proper multi-stage using good but not great  quality paint and decent but not great paint prep. Looks good enough to get lots of compliments 4 years later. People assume the paint is nearly brand new or original and very well kept.
